“Flights of Fancy” is a collection of images full of color and energy. I am an explorer, often looking for new ways to combine color, line, and composition to express experiences and emotions that engage the viewer. I like pushing for somewhere I’ve never gone before. My goal throughout is to convey a sense of emotional energy, whether it be peaceful and calm or dynamic and joyous.
The evolution of growing in my art is taking/pushing me to a more abstract sculptural form. In much of my sculptural work one might see nature in the final carved form. This creates eye pleasing pieces depicting nature or manipulating the very nature or the work as a whole. Sit back and let them draw you into pleasant memories or nature around you.
The works in An Archived Past are my interpretations of memories, some composed as visual collages of family. Snapshot references served as inspiration for the pieces. These works are a record, for the future, of my past. Many of the portrait subjects are no longer living, this show serves as a remembrance.
Our need for human connection… for kindness and confirmation …. has become more apparent to us in these “COVID days.” For this show, I have tried to capture those precious moments of connection, whether between children and those who care for them, between two strangers suddenly dancing together, or between a Native American and her spiritual divinity.
