Kellie's
formal art education began at the University of Nebraska. From
there, her career in the arts has included studying and teaching
art in such varied places as Florence, Italy and rural Nebraska.
After moving to the twin cities she taught both publicly and privately
before retuning full time to her painting. Four years ago she
opened an art gallery in the Warehouse district of Minneapolis.
This gallery represents some of the most respected local and regional
artists in the region. When not in her gallery the focus is on
her painting. Kellie creates in her studio at home or at her cabin
in Northern Minnesota from where most of her subjects have been
provided.
From
the beginning of her interest in art, Kellie has had a passion
for nature and the representations of its bounty in the paintings
of both classical and modern masters. "They are a never-ending
source of inspiration and technical information. On each canvas,
there are libraries of information, both subjective and objective.

The more I study and paint the easier it has become to make
subjects dance, sleep, hate, love, become dangerous, funny or
passive. There are many parallels to our lives in the cycles
and personalities of the subjects I choose to paint. I want
people to stop for a moment to marvel at the mystery of something
so simple. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes not, our world is
filled with so many clever creatures and plants. My paintings
are reminders for us to respect our world and all of its dynamics."
This new body of work is the culmination of two years of study.
These interpretations and observations of nature come from below
the surface with the focus on the lakes of Minnesota.
