John is a full time RV'r from Lincoln, Tucson in Arizona and South Texas who describes himself as a wildlife activist. John is a retired Rural Mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He is a member of the Mid-America Woodcarvers, Northeast Iowa Woodcarvers Association and the Affiliated Woodcarvers Association.
John attended the University of Nebraska on a two-year Hallmark Art Scholarship, majoring in Fine Arts with minors in political science and photojournalism.
During his life, John has worked with oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, clay, stone, photography, pyrography, gold and silversmithing, and of course, wood.
John's work has been shown locally at Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, The Hay Market and The Burkholder Project in Lincoln, Joslyn in Omaha, and at the Steinhart Lodge in Nebraska City. His work also has been on display at guild shows; the Nebraska State Fair; various woodcarving competitions including Wings Over the Platte at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, Nebraska; Northeast Iowa Woodcarvers in Waterloo, Iowa; International Woodcarvers Congress in Davenport, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska.
John competed in the Rio Grande Valley Wood Carvers Show in Pharr, Texas earlier this year, earning five first place and one second place awards. Last year he took Best of Show in the Iowa State Woodcarvers Competition with his “Tranquil Trumpeter” sculpture.
His pieces are owned by collectors around the globe, as far away as Hong Kong, Tokyo and Perth, Australia.
